Saving restaurants during the pandemic – digitalisation

The digital solution saved FiskarFänget from closing during the pandemic, it also increased sales by 20% through additional sales and better availability.

The pandemic sweeping in was hard on the restaurant industry. Requirements on waiting attables and distance between guests led to sittings that defaulted and fewer visitors. Hiring of staff to accommodate waiting at tables during a time when takings decreased was not financially sustainable. Instead, restaurants risked having to close down during the pandemic if they couldn't find other solutions.

Roger Edlund operates FiskarFänget on the coast of Ångermanland, which was one of many restaurants hit hard by the pandemic. The restaurant is dependant on summer takings to survive, and Roger realised that it would have been impossible to operate the restaurant the traditional way. That was when he came into contact with WEIQ, a digital solution for booking, ordering and paying. The customers can easily scan QR codes via their smartphone and order the food directly to the table, and then pay via the mobile app. This decreases contact with both staff and other guests.

This is a fine example of how digitalisation can make it easier for restaurants and contribute new solutions. WEIQ and other companies that offer different digital solutions will be exhibiting at GastroNord in April 2022, where they themselves can tell you about their vision and how the digital solutions can help your restaurant.
